INFO | Skylight Installation

Skylights are a fantastic way to bring natural light to your space. The position and pitch of a skylight can play a large part in their efficiency to allow light to travel through a space and in turn, generate warmth.

A skylight is a great option for privacy reasons too - their elevated location naturally blocks any line of sight between you and the neighbors!

The picture adjacent shows our resident roofing expert Colin, and our recently qualified Baxter, taking their hands to installing these skylights with precision.

Renovation Completion | Step by Step at Sim Street

After a 3-stage renovation our Sim Street project has come to a close!

It has been a journey of ups and downs as we navigated, framing rot, wild weather, construction solutions and updated council regulations all while these amazing clients toughed it out living through the build.

We may be biased but we think that the the quality of the end result speaks volumes for the craftsmanship of our team.

A special mention to our Tod who has shifted to work in our joinery factory. This is some stand out work!

Keep an eye on our social media for some more insights about this project.

Info | The Double Gazing & Insulation Comparative

In our line of work we often meet people who have intended to invest in double glazing for their home. While double glazing is now a Building Code requirement, its not the silver bullet for existing and period homes that you might think.

When we talk double glazing we will use "R-Values" to describe their Thermal Resistance. Sometimes this can be a little confusing so just think of it in dollars and cents!

The R-Value of a single glazed window is $0.19 cents. If it was double glazed $0.39 cents. If you then compare this to a wall (cladding, framing, insulation & GIB), you'll be looking at $2.00 - That's a big jump right!?

Double glazing can be a significant investment in your property so before you commit to it, think about how your home could work better for you and if this may affect the window locations or layouts.

Windows are one home item that you should do it once and do it right!

Consumer NZ has a great article that explores alternate methods of heat retention, diagrams and comparatives.
