Huia House is a new build on a recently subdivided rural site in Waikanae. The property is west facing with views to Kapiti Island and the Tasman Sea.
The design features an impressive ceiling height at the front of the dwelling, complete with floor to ceiling glazing to capture the sea views. The open plan living space flows out onto a deck with an open fire place. The generously sized deck sits atop a double garage, providing even more expansive views out to Kapiti Island and beyond.
The bedrooms are accessed via an open hallway, elevated above the living space. The master bedroom has all the bells and whistles, with an ensuite and walk-in wardrobe. Two additional large bedrooms, with a shared bathroom are down the hall, along with the laundry/mudroom and an outdoor toilet.
The dwelling is partially clad in a dark vertical weatherboard, which folds over the building from front to back. This dark tone is offset by the earthly cedar cladding on either side of the dwelling.
