The Bellbird Eatery lives at the Dowse Art Museum in Lower Hutt. Our client wanted the existing café to be completely stripped out and replaced with a clean, sophisticated space, complete with a full commercial kitchen and operations area.
We started by removing a section of the masonry structural wall to create an opening from the café to kitchen, giving customers a chance grab a glimpse of the hustle and bustle of a kitchen in full operation. We followed that by considering the varied dining experiences on offer and ensuring there was a connection between the award-winning museum and the café, by letting artwork carry you between the spaces.
The café space now offers a selection of seating from high tables to café tables and banquet seating. The lighting and décor help to subtly define spaces, making it easy to enjoy a casual coffee catch up or more intimate dining experience.
Pop into the Dowse Museum next time you are in the area, and stop in for a meal at Bellbird Eatery. Their food is excellent, and the space is beautiful.
